Overview |
For this model year, with its GT and base models, GM plans to revive the old tradition of the Pontiac G8 –a combination of athleticism, head-turning looks and raw power. It is, in the words of its makers, aimed at steering the company’s sedan segment into a new direction. The most prominent step the manufacturer has taken in trying to realize this ambition is in bringing the rear-wheel drive, while making it a very affordable sedan in relation to its foremost competing model, the BMW M3. |
Powertrain and performance |
The 2008 Pontiac G8 GT is a four-door with a 6-liter, V8 engine that has a six-speed optional automatic or manual transmission with a weight distribution of very nearly 50:50. Built on the Zeta platform, this sedan has a mighty output of 362 horsepower at 391 pounds of torque. It zips to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds; while its on-demand displacement technology shuts off four of its cylinders when the full use of the torque is not needed.
The G8’s base model emits 261 horsepower on its 3.6-liter V6 DOHC engine with 250 pound-feet of torque.
