Power and Performance |
The 2008 Sierra 3500 is available in regular cab, extended cab, and crew cab body styles. All the body styles are available with a standard two-wheel-drive configuration. Regular cabs can be selected in base Work Truck or midlevel SLE trims, while the extended and crew cabs are offered in premium SLT form. The SLE trim consists of SLE1 and SLE2 subsets.
The 353-horsepower, 6.0-liter V-8 engine is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission that is standard on all Sierra 3500 trucks. The Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V-8 engine provides 365 horsepower and is available as an option. The Duramax is mated to a heavy-duty Allison six-speed automatic transmission. The hauling and towing capacity of the Duramax is 5,307 pounds and 16,500 pounds with a fifth-wheel hitch. The Work Truck with four-wheel-drive (4WD) has a floor-mounted select or transfer case, while other 4WD trims have AutoTrac, which automatically shifts into 4WD when wheel slippage is detected.

The refined Sierra 3500 has superior interior quality materials and simple, but spontaneous controls. Three-blink lane change is possible at the touch of a button. Plenty of storage cubbies, three power points (with one in the console box), and cup holders enhance its user-friendly environment. The SLT version comes with an exclusive dash and door panels that have wood-grain and metallic accents, leather seats, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry, and 12-way power and heated front seats. |

Standard safety equipment on the one-ton Sierra includes a tire-pressure monitor and anti-lock disc brakes. Power-adjustable pedals and rear park assist are optional. |
